Automobile production and sales declined significantly in July, and the risk of “chip shortage” remains

A few days ago, the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers reported that in July 2021, automobile production and sales were 1.863 million and 1.864 million, down 4.1% and 7.5% month-on-month, and down 15.5% and 11.9% year-on-year. Compared with the same period in 2019, output increased by 3.2% year-on-year, sales volume increased by 2.7% year-on-year, output growth increased by 0.8 percentage points compared with July, and sales growth rate turned from negative to positive. Judging from the market situation, auto production and sales have declined in the same period this month.

In July, the production and sales of new energy vehicles were completed at 271,000 units, a year-on-year increase of 1.7 times and 1.6 times respectively. Among them, the production and sales of pure electric vehicles were 232,000 and 220,000, respectively, an increase of 1.8 times and 1.7 times year-on-year. This month, the production and sales of new energy continued to set new records, forming a strongly differentiated feature from the trend of traditional fuel vehicles, realizing a substitution effect on the fuel vehicle market, and driving 284,000 vehicles and the pace of the city’s transition to new energy.

According to Mysteel statistics, as of August 13, 21 auto companies have announced July production and sales data. The data shows that in the context of the rapid increase in the base number over the same period last year, the pressure of passenger car growth has increased significantly, production and sales have shown varying degrees of decline, and the production and sales of most car companies in July did not outperform the market.

Except for the four car companies of SAIC, Changan Automobile, Guangzhou Automobile Group, and BYD, more than half of the car companies’ production and sales in July fell month-on-month. Among them, SAIC Group’s production and sales in July changed from the previous month’s downward trend, rising by 5.26% and 7.28% respectively; BYD’s production and sales increased by 16.6% and 11.68% from the previous month. Among the auto companies with both production and sales declines, Sugon’s production fell the most month-on-month, reaching 87.98%; Xiaokang’s sales fell the most month-on-month, reaching 84.48%.
